If anyone is looking for any urban sketching in Musselburgh or East Lothian then send me a message maybe we can recruit a few local budding companions for days when the sky is blue or the sea is rough?

Have you heard of Urban Sketching? If not now is your chance.
Several years ago Urban sketching was created in the USA and today it is reaching all corners of the globe. Is it time the club creates our own Musselburgh Urban Sketchers branch?
There is a group in Edinburgh but I think that whilst East Lothian has some challenges with subject matter (or lack of urban areas) that challenge could actually be its strong point. There are so many landmarks in Edinburgh that is has been painted time and time again. East Lothian of course is not as urban however I feel that if we focus on finding subject matter then we would add value to East Lothian and the greater Urban Sketching movement in general.
It would be a fair weather monthly or Bi monthly occasion during summer. Meetings would last anywhere from a couple of hours or as long as it’s still possible to paint.
Meetings must be either plain-air outdoors or indoors but all subjects should be painted in person and never from printed images/photographs. For winter meets we could paint from a bar, restaurant, hotel, station or museum etc. Advance permission would be required.
Of course all images shared would require the artist permission and refusal to share would be agreed and not make any difference to our own group.
So the rules… It may already sound like a lot of rules but it not really.
It’s a group of artists enjoying the outside pain-air experience with no pressure and for fun. If anyone does a great sketch that you wish to make into a large more clubhouse/studio focused work, then great go for it! Even after being shared online it’s your own original artwork.
No specialised equipment is required. Use your normal art mediums, bring a picnic chair, flask of coffee, paper towels, rubbish bag and bottle for water. It is possible to utilise almost anything for example a recycled a £1.00 pharmacy pill box filled up to hold 7 watercolour paints for when on train or plane.
The Musselburgh East Lothian Urban Sketchers Manifesto
We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
Our drawings are a record of time and place.
We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
We can use type of media to create and cherish our individual styles.
We support each other and draw together.
We share our drawings online via our new Club Website, Facebook and Twitter.
We show the world, one drawing at a time.
