Pain and Art Therapy

About Scott

Artist, painter, and creator using art as therapy.

My Story

I use painting as art therapy to help manage chronic pain. It gives me space from the constant discomfort and helps me turn difficult days into something creative.

Living with Chronic Pain

I have lived with chronic pain in my lower spine for 28 years, and since 2008 I have also had nerve damage in my left foot and leg. Some days are incredibly difficult, but my family keeps me going.

The pain is constant and hard to put into words. At times it feels like a severe ache through my foot, ankle, shin, hip, and lower spine. Walking can quickly make it worse. When it reaches its limit, I have to stop, rest with heat pads, and wait for the pain to settle before beginning the cycle again.

I have had to accept that pain is part of my life, but painting gives me a way to keep moving forward and find colour in the grey areas.

Why I Paint

Painting helps me find colour in the grey areas.

Moving Forward

I have a Spinal Cord Stimulator to help manage the symptoms and have undergone spinal fusion, but the nerve damage has not healed. Even so, I keep squeezing out the paint tubes and creating whenever I can.

Thank you for visiting my website and taking the time to learn a little about the story behind my paintings.
